This assessment was conducted as part of the WHO South-East (SE) Asia regional initiative to strengthen indicator-based communicable disease surveillance and strategic information systems. The overarching aim is to inform the development of a regional framework that supports integrated, indicator-based surveillance and effective public health response across Member States.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For Myanmar, the assessment sought to systematically review and map the country\u2019s communicable disease surveillance systems, focusing on their structure, performance, and alignment with international standards. The evaluation covered surveillance for high-priority diseases \u2013 including tuberculosis (TB), HIV\/AIDS, hepatitis B and C, syphilis, gonorrhoea, dengue, chikungunya, leishmaniasis, leprosy, lymphatic filariasis, malaria, cholera, enteric fever, leptospirosis and scrub typhus \u2013 as well as the broader legal, policy, and operational environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The purpose was to document the current landscape, identify key gaps, and generate actionable recommendations to help Myanmar and the Region move towards more harmonized, resilient, and responsive surveillance systems.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
