It assesses the government’s escalating use of national security justifications to suppress religious freedom, ongoing violations against religious minorities, systematic use of religiously based charges to execute peaceful protesters, and global dimensions of Iran’s religious repression. In its 2026 Annual Report, USCIRF recommended that the U.S. Department of State maintain Iran as a Country of Particular Concern, or CPC.
