Produced in collaboration with the World Economic Forum and the Australian National University, this white paper calls for strengthening of partnerships between National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) and the private sector to bridge the global early warning coverage gap and safeguard lives and economies from the escalating impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

Environmental risks \u2013 led by extreme weather \u2013 have become the greatest source of long-term concern and are projected to intensify over the next decade, underscoring concern about the impact on business operations, supply and distribution chains, and the workforce. These impacts necessitate a wide range of responses, and early warning systems are a strategy that has consistently proven effective.<\/p>\n

By working in concert with government and other stakeholders, businesses can both contribute to, and benefit from, early warning services. This paper aims to lay the foundations for new partnerships. It presents a framework for understanding the role of business in early warning and a first assessment of business engagement in the field.<\/p>\n
