This report provides an update on\u00a0freedom of religion or belief in\u00a0Algeria.\u00a0The government currently criminalizes blasphemy\u00a0and\u00a0restricts religious practice, worship, and observance. It persecutes\u00a0members of faith-based groups including Christians\u00a0and Ahmadiyya\u00a0Muslims.\u00a0The Algerian government denies Ahmadiyyas the right to register as Muslims and continues to prosecute religious leaders as well using in-absentia convictions and suspended sentences. It has also closed nearly all evangelical churches in the country with only one remaining open as of September 2024.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
