Overview <\/h3>\n

Bundibugyo virus disease, which is caused by Bundibugyo virus, is a severe filovirus infection with epidemic potential that requires the development of safe and effective medical countermeasures to reduce morbidity, mortality and transmission during outbreaks. In response to the 2026 Public Health Emergency of International Concern and the urgent need for Bundibugyo virus-specific vaccines, this document presents the World Health Organization target product profile (TPP) for vaccines against Bundibugyo virus disease. The TPP defines the minimum and preferred characteristics for vaccine candidates to guide research, development and regulatory pathways while supporting preparedness for future outbreaks.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The publication outlines the intended public health use of Bundibugyo virus vaccines in outbreak response and preparedness, including their role in protecting at-risk populations and contributing to outbreak control. It describes the desired vaccine attributes across key domains, including indications, target populations, efficacy, safety, dosing regimen, route of administration, storage and stability, manufacturing considerations, and programmatic suitability for deployment in resource-constrained settings. The document also explains how the TPP is intended to support the World Health Organization policy recommendations, Emergency Use Listing, prequalification, and regulatory decision-making, while recognizing that overall benefit-risk considerations may outweigh individual product characteristics. Intended for vaccine developers, manufacturers, researchers, regulators, funding agencies and public health partners, this TPP provides a common framework to accelerate the development, evaluation and availability of safe, effective and accessible vaccines for the prevention and control of Bundibugyo virus disease.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n
