In doing so, it leverages the unique vantage point of space. Programmatically, Biosphere includes four research areas (subelements): Biological Diversity, Land Cover and Land Use Change, Ocean Biology and Biogeochemistry, and Terrestrial Ecology. The goal is to further understand the Earth system in which both human-induced and natural changes influence the composition, structure, and function of ecosystems, as well as the fluxes and storage of elements critical for life and the availability of natural resources. Its research hinges on remotely sensed measurements of our living planet, including data obtained from space, aircraft, and other suborbital platforms; data from field studies and coordinated campaigns; and data assimilation and modeling efforts to quantify and predict changes to the biodiversity and biogeochemical regimes of the living Earth. Long-term, sustained, and well-calibrated satellite data are a critical component of Earth system observations and are the only means to detect change synoptically at the global scale.<\/p>\n<p>ROSES-2025 Amendment 64 releases <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nspires.nasaprs.com\/external\/solicitations\/summary.do?solNum=NNH25ZDA001N-BIOS\">A.15 Biosphere<\/a> as a new opportunity in ROSES-25. Step-1 proposals are due by September 4, 2026, and Step-2 proposals are due November 6, 2026.
